Misc Verses... some seasonal

These verses are from all over the place - notes we've had, copy work I found that the kids did at one point or another, Goddess services I attended when I was Pagan, lots of notes I just had floating around.  If I haven't sited an author and you know who it is, PLEASE email us so we can give proper credit.

A Praise-Song to Lilith and Eve From the Hebrew Tradition

Come, let us go to the garden, eastward in

Eden

, to meet the fair ones:

The Mother of All Living, with her dark sister, the Mother of Passion.

They appear like the dawn, fair as the moon,

Bright as the sun, majestic as the stars in procession.

She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.

Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.

Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace.

She is a Tree of Life to those who embrace her: those who lay hold of her will be blessed.

We come as lovers into the garden to taste its choice fruits.

Your plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with henna and nard,

Saffron and cinnamon, with every kind of incense tree.

You are a garden fountain, a well of flowing water streaming down from

Lebanon

.

Awake, north wind, and come, south wind!

Blow on the garden, that its fragrance may spread abroad.

Give us to eat of the tree in the garden.  The fruit of the tree is good for food

And pleasing to the eye, it is desirable for gaining wisdom.

We will eat and not die, our eyes will be opened,

We will be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Comfort us as you comfort

Zion

, and look with compassion on all our ruins;

Make our deserts bloom, our wastelands like the garden of Eden.

Find in us joy and gladness, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.

(Unison)

Grant us the gifts of the Mothers, bring us the blessings of heaven above

Blessings of the deep that lieth under,

Blessings of the breasts, and of the womb.

Brukcha-ya, Shaddai!

(Goddess Service #77, January 14, 2002)

In the beginning was the Word

And the Word was with God

And the Word was God.

In Him was life

And the life was the light of men.

The light shone in darkness

But the darkness comprehended it not.

That was the true light which every person

Has who comes into the world.

He was in the world

And the world was made by Him

But the world knew him not.

He came to His own

But his own received Him not

But as many as received Him

To them He gave the power

To become the children of God.

Chant for Elemental Consecrations

We will never, never lose our way to the well

Of Her memory.

We are thirsting, for the waters of life,

We are flowing, We will live again.

Sacred fire, light the way through the dark

To the sun light, of Her memory.

And the power, of Her living flame,

It will rise, it will rise again.

(repeat)

 Chorus to “Taste and See”

Oh taste, taste and see

How good is the fruit that falls from the tree,

Oh taste, taste and see

How good is the fruit of the garden.

Marvel

All things are marvelous

If only we look well.

Is the little seed more marvelous,

Or roses!  Who can tell.

I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.  John 8:12

Hail Mother Mary, Queen of Heaven.  Mother to Jesus, seer of Creation.

O Lady Moon

O Lady Moon, your horns point to the East.

Shine be increased!

O Lady Moon, your horns point to the West.

Wane, be at rest.

The Earth is firm beneath my feet, the Sun shines bright above and here stand I so straight and strong, all things to know and love.

O moon, you trusty friend

Your kindly light you lend

To those who know you well

In forest, glade, and dell

While under mountains tall and steep

Bright jewels we must find and reap.

The Oak and the Reed

The great oak tree

Thinks he’s the strongest

As he’s been standing

There the longest.

The wind it blew.

The rain came lashing;

And down the great oak tree

Came crashing.

The slender reed

Swayed in the weather,

And at the dawn

Was strong as ever.

The slender reed

She knows much better,

For she can bend

In stormy weather.

And thus a delicate spark

Of glowing and growing light

Thro’ the livelong hours of the dark

Kept itself warm in the heart of my dreams.

~ Tennyson

Success

To laugh often and much

To win the respect of intelligent people

And the affection of children,

To earn the appreciation of honest critics

And to endure the betrayal of false friends,

To appreciate beauty,

To find the best of others,

To leave the world a bit better,

Whether by a healthy child, a garden patch

Or a redeemed social condition,

To know that even one life has breathed

Better because you have lived,

This is to have succeeded.

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

So Moon Mother, soft with pale light,

She bends, her loving watch to keep.

With her sight she dearly bought the night

To give her children the blessing of sleep.

~

The Gnome

Deep down he goes,

The little gnome,

Deep down into

His earthy home.

Deep down among

The roots he lives;

Such help to all

The plants he gives.

~ M. Morgan

Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.

~ William

Butler

Yeats

The Daffodils

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high over vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

~ W. Wordsworth

Wee folk, good folk,

Trooping all together.

Green jacket, red cap,

And white owl’s feather.

Spiritual science is the ground of life, and love is the blossom and fruit of a life enhanced by it.

~ Rudolf Steiner

Now my work has ended

And now my hands can rest.

I thank my hands

My left and right

For helping me to do my best.

(handwork verse)

This is the night when witches

Fly on their whizzing broomsticks,

Through the wintry sky,

Steering up the pathway

Where the stars are strewn,

In front of the mother moon.

(Halloween)

A math story introducing the 4 operations

Once upon a time there was a wonderful little gnome village that was built right on the edge of the forest.  The inhabitants were quite successful in building homes and trading animals for profit.  One family of gnomes had 4 brothers, David, Michael, Adam, and Sam.  David was very good at dividing things evenly so that every one got a fair share.  Michael was somewhat magical; he created something from nothing, a natural multiplier.  Adam held it all together and was very reliable in adding to the family’s resources.  Then there was Sam, who was often times unhappy but good at subtracting things that needed to go.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, Adam went to town and worked in the mill.  He was paid $7 on Monday, $5 on Tuesday, and $4 on Wednesday.  He came home on Thursday.  How much had he earned?  ($16)  David figured that if Adam had earned $16 and they were to all split it evenly between the 4 brothers, they would each receive how much?  ($4)  Michael took 3 goats to the market on Friday and sold them for $4 each.  How much did he earn for all 3 goats?  ($12)  Michael took the money home where Sam was waiting to pay the expenses.  They needed $2 for utilities, $3 for groceries, and $1 to pay for a chicken they recently bought from a family down the road.  How much was left to put into savings?  ($6)

Etc…..  ~ Heather Cody

 The old year’s gone,

He’s tired and worn.

Christmas is past,

The tree all shorn.

(New Year’s)

Stone Blessing (Festival of Stones song) by Reg Down

Bless this stone and all it brings.

Bless its hardness and how it sings.

Bless its beauty and its light

Bless its shining through winter’s night.

It's not often that one comes across Lilith, or praise for her, but I'm pleased to see it and the thought that people may take some time to find out a little more about her.
